“Healing Invisible Wounds: Empowering Survivors of Narcissistic Abuse”

In 2022, Miriam-Webster named “gaslighting” as their word of the year. Social media is filled with content creators exploring narcissistic abuse and offering coaching to survivors. Though the term has made its way into the current vernacular and social discourse, practicing psychologists have not necessarily adjusted their practice to meet the unique needs of those who have been entangled in antagonistic relationships.

At the end of the presentation, participants will be able to:

1. Identify and describe at least three subtypes of narcissism and antagonistic personality styles.

2. Identify at least 4 common tactics used by narcissistic individuals and the psychological impact on their targets.

3. Compare and contrast common techniques used in individual therapy to therapeutic techniques for survivors of narcissistic abuse and discuss how the former can be harmful.

4. Discuss helpful skills for individuals with significant others displaying narcissistic traits.

5. Identify and describe treatment targets for individuals who have left antagonistic/narcissistic relationships.
