Description: Self-acceptance and self-compassion are key components of ego strength and are foundational for working through emotional material that arises in treatment. This dinner meeting will focus on Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC), a program developed by psychologists Kristin Neff, Ph.D., and Christopher Germer, Ph.D. We will focus on specific practices that can be taught to clients to help them develop skills for working with emotions in therapy and in life. This presentation will focus on adults.
Learning Objectives:
- Learn about Mindful Self Compassion and its research-based impact for adults.
- Learn Mindful Self Compassion practices that you can immediately implement with your patients.
- Learn considerations and risks for clients choosing to attend mindfulness or Mindful Self-Compassion classes or retreats.
Pamela Cotton, Ph.D. is trained in clinical psychology and provided individual and couples psychotherapy in private practice for several years. Dr. Cotton shifted focus from clinical practice to writing, teaching, and coaching, integrating mindfulness with resilience development. She has taught mindfulness-based classes online and in person to the public. She is a certified mindfulness teacher and is a trained teacher in Mindful Self- Compassion. Dr. Cotton has written several books including Mindful Resilience and Compassion in Leadership. Her coaching clients learn to use current life challenges as opportunities for growth and personal transformation. She greatly values personal development and continues her own students and meditation practice.
