SUMMARY:Adjusting the Flame
DESCRIPTION:About the workshop\nAnger is often viewed as something to suppress or avoid. When understood and directed effectively\, it can become a powerful catalyst for meaningful change. \nDr. Mitch Abrams presents an honest\, evidence-informed approach to recognizing\, understanding and utilizing anger in ways that support personal and professional goals. \nBreakfast\, coffee and tea are provided. \nLearning objectives\nUpon completion of this workshop\, participants will be able to: \n\nDifferentially define anger\, aggression\, violence\, and hostility\, and explain the distinct psychological and behavioral functions of each construct in clinical and everyday settings.\nDescribe the physiological\, cognitive\, and environmental factors that influence emotional intensity and identify how excessive or insufficient anger can impair judgment\, decision-making\, relationships\, and performance.\nApply the "Adjust the Flame" model and related evidence-based interventions to help clients regulate emotional intensity\, harness anger as a source of motivation and resilience\, and achieve an optimal level of arousal for peak performance without "burning up" through reactive\, self-defeating\, or destructive behavior.\n\nAbout the presenter\nDr. Mitch Abrams is a licensed sport\, clinical\, and forensic psychologist\, an internationally recognized expert on anger\, violence\, trauma\, and performance\, and one of the few professionals in the world who practices across all three specialties. \nRaised in Starrett City\, Brooklyn\, where he learned firsthand how adversity can become a source of strength\, Dr. Abrams earned his Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from Long Island University/C.W. Post and has spent more than 25 years consulting with athletes\, coaches\, executives\, attorneys\, and organizations on maximizing performance and resilience. \nHe is the Founder of Learned Excellence for Athletes and Abrams Psychological Services\, Chief Psychologist for Rutgers University Correctional Health Care\, Clinical Assistant Professor at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School\, and a Fellow of both the American Psychological Association and the Association for Applied Sport Psychology. \nA pioneer in sexual assault prevention and athlete development\, he developed the Abrams Model of Sexual Assault Prevention and has worked extensively in corrections\, forensic psychology\, and elite sport. \nDr. Abrams is the author of Anger Management in Sport and the Amazon bestselling I’m Not Fcking Angry! Adjust the Flame to Get What You Want and Need\, which challenges conventional views of anger and teaches individuals how to harness it as a tool for achievement\, leadership\, and personal growth.
