By now you probably know that the American Medical Association recommends Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for insomnia (CBT-i) over sleep medications. However, there are few certified practitioners of CBT-i. Dr. Billmann will present a how-to tutorial on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for insomnia (CBT-i). He will review the most powerful controllers of sleep, relevant case studies, and treatment methods you can implement immediately.
Learning Objectives:
1. To recognize the most common sleep disorders;
2. To understand the fundamentals of sleep;
3. To recognize common factors in individuals with insomnia;
4. To be able to obtain an adequate sleep history;
5. To implement Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for insomnia (CBT-i); and
6. To know when to refer to specialists for other treatment.
Dr. Billmann is a licensed psychologist with more than 20 years of experience. He evaluates individuals for work capacity, diagnostic questions, fitness for duty, and behavioral sleep disorders. He has also treated individuals with a variety of Behavioral Medicine issues. He is board-certified by the American Board of Sleep Medicine. Dr. Billmann received his Doctor of Psychology degree from Virginia Consortium offered by Eastern Virginia Medical School, William & Mary, Old Dominion University & Norfolk State University. He completed a residency in behavioral medicine at Temple University Hospital and a fellowship at the Sentara-Eastern Virginia Medical School Sleep Disorders Center.
