Who’s Under the Transgender Umbrella: News and Views from the Trans Community with Dr. Cori Yaeger

September 11, 2017

$25.00 – $55.00

Dr. Cori Yaeger, Presenter

After a swift review of terms, Dr. Yaeger will present an update of victories and challenges facing transgender clients using case studies and current trends. The role of the mental health professional in serving transgender clients will be discussed along with co-occurring mental health issues, political moves, and insurance barriers that make it difficult for this population to receive the care they deserve. She will also present ways in which we can advocate for our clients and help to overcome some of the barriers to care. An updated listing of local transgender resources will be given to attendees.

Objectives: At the completion of the workshop, attendees will:

  • Understand vocabulary unique to the LGBTQ/Trans* community;
  • be aware of the role of mental health professionals in treating this special population;
  • learn about the political, insurance and access challenges faced by trans* individuals; and
  • have a current list of local resources for trans* clients.

Cori Yaeger, Ph.D., LPCC-S has been serving the local transgender community for the past eight years.

She is a member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) and facilitates a bi-weekly support group for trans* individuals on the east side of Cincinnati (Varieties of Gender or VōG).

Dr. Yaeger has been a member of the CAPP board for the past 7 years. She has recently moved her practice to Lebanon and sees clients from Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, Dayton, and Columbus.
