Implications, Implementation, and Ethics in Evolving Technology: Navigating the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Psychology

Bio: Dr. Ciesielski (she/her) is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Purdue University and Director of the Purdue Psychology Treatment and Research Clinics. She is a licensed clinical psychologist and board certified in clinical child and adolescent psychology. Her primary academic interests include clinical training in psychological evaluation and child clinical treatment, ADHD and related behavior disorders, bioethics, ethical decision-making, and ethics and technology.

Objectives:

1. Participants will be provided a general overview of current artificial intelligence (AI) programs and tools that may be used in psychological practice, training, and research.

2. Participants will learn ways in which the use of AI may be used in clinical practice, including benefits, limitations, and ethical and clinical concerns.

3. Participants will learn how AI may be used in clinical training and supervision.

4. Participants will learn the ethical considerations and how to navigate ethical decision-making regarding the use of AI in clinical practice and training.

Brief Description: This workshop will discuss the evolving role of technology, specifically artificial intelligence technology (AI), in psychological practice and clinical training. Participants will learn current AI technologies, practical applications for clinicians, supervisors, and researchers, and ethical considerations, including how to use ethical decision-making models when deciding when/whether to use AI. The benefits and limitations of this technology within psychological science, in addition to maintenance of professional and ethical standards, will also be addressed.
