Introduction to Clinical Hypnosis

MONDAY, DECEMBER 13, 2021 (7-9 PM): Introduction to Clinical Hypnosis (2 CEUs)

Program Description:

Dr. Reid will provide an overview of Clinical Hypnosis including a review of hypnosis myths and misconceptions and applications for enhancing your clinical practice. During this presentation, Dr. Reid will overview the “anatomy” of a hypnosis experience and provide demonstrations of hypnosis interventions.

Program Objectives:

After completing this workshop, participants will:

1. Provide at least one commonly accepted definition of clinical hypnosis.

2. Distinguish between the terms “trance” and “hypnosis”

3. Explain 3 to 4 hypnosis terms and how they apply to the clinical hypnosis experience.

4. Define 2 commonly held misperceptions concerning hypnosis and give an accurate rebuttal for each.

5. Describe 2 methods of trance intensification.

6. Describe 2 realtering methods for trance termination

David B. Reid, Psy.D., is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Fellow and Approved Consultant of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH). Dr. Reid is an Award Winning author of Hypnosis for Behavioral Health: Professional’s Guide to Expanding Your Practice (Springer Publishing Company), and co-author of Permanent Habit Control: Practitioners’ Guide to Using Hypnosis and Other Alternative Health Strategies (Springer Publishing Company). Dr. Reid serves as a Science Editor for the American Journal of Clinical Hypnosis, and Chair of the Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis (SCEH) Certification Committee. Dr. Reid has received numerous awards from ASCH and SCEH for his contributions to both societies, as well as his peer-reviewed published papers on clinical hypnosis (Milton H Erickson Award, Ernest R. Hilgard Award, and the William S. Kroger Award) and most recently the Erica Fromm Award for Excellence in Teaching from SCEH. He is an adjunct professor at Saybrook University and the current President of Division 30 (Psychological Hypnosis) of the American Psychological Association. Dr. Reid maintains a private practice at Augusta Psychological Associates in Central Virginia.
